It's the simple things in life: cooking chicken thighs braised in garlic and white wine while listening to Tom the Jazz Man on Public Radio East.
One of the joys of retirement is being able to try new recipes. This is the second one. The other one was a sort of Mexican chicken from "20 Minute Menus" by Marion Burros, a superb cookbook.
Public Radio East is great, except it is disconcerting to live somewhere where the local NPR station home page has a menu header with the typical "Home - Suppport - News Programs - Arts - Events - About Us - Contact Us - Commentaries".....and then, "Hurricanes." Fortunately, we only the unusual cold persists, but no hurricane weather. In relation to the cold, local Public Radio East programming provided a helpful definition of "black ice" -- an unfamiliar phenomenon here -- and a gardening expert warned that the citrus, palms, and figs hardy enough for these climes may be damaged, but not destroyed, by the cold snap -- but not to worry!: "we'll be planting peas in a couple of months." "A couple of months"? That's still blizzard season where we come from -- i.e., Pre Mud Season.
Meanwhile, Tim is happy because his team is making a comeback. No, not the Pats -- some other team. it's 45 - 45 in "OT." He would've had "like, a million points" in fantasy football if the most recent play had been successful. "3rd and 5." "OH NO!" Arizona touchdown. "Watch this play -- this is unbelievable. The ball got knocked into the guy's hand and he took it in for a touchdown." "OH he grabbed his face mask! Call the penalty! Oh, show it again, show it again, they grabbed his face mask."
The jury will disregard that comment about "comeback."
I think I'd better go check on the chicken.....
